Endwalls: the plain-English version
An endwall is parallel to the main frame, in Star's glossary. [1]
It is not defined simply as whichever wall looks shortest in a photograph.
Illustrative geometry
On a conventional 30 ft × 40 ft gable layout with frames spanning 30 ft, the 30 ft-wide faces are the endwalls.
